Requirements:
1. Purpose of Role
-The Ventilation Officer is responsible for the maintenance of ventilation and occupational hygiene systems in the surface and underground environment and to provide the Senior Ventilation Officer with information to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

2. Work of Role
-Interpretation of legal requirements
-Ensures adherence to legal compliance through auditing, monitoring, and reporting
-Ensure that mine ventilation rescue plans are updated
-Measure compliance to Sections 5.1(1), 9.2(2), 16.1(1) (MHSA) and chapter 12 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (occupational health risk assessment and monitoring)
-Measure compliance to the ventilation engineering and occupational hygiene regulations of the Mine Health and Safety Act pertaining to monitoring and reporting at business area level
-Ensure that ventilation and occupational hygiene programmes are properly administered
-Assist the Senior Ventilation Officer in the development of best practices, standards and procedures
-Advise to the Senior Ventilation Officer on business area ventilation and occupational hygiene planning, technical systems, and administration
-Assist in the implementation and maintenance of emergency preparedness programmes
-Report and advice on ventilation and occupational hygiene matters
-Ensure that legal requirements, group standards and policies are adhered to
-Maintain ventilation and occupational hygiene strategies and systems
-Conduct risk assessments and participate in audits
-Conducts daily ventilation and occupational hygiene inspections and records findings
-Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions
-Management of resources and assets
-Contribute to the achievement of the objectives and targets of the ventilation and occupational hygiene department and those of the business area

3. Qualifications
-Grade 12
-Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
-Practical Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
-Member of the Mine Ventilation Society - Advantageous
-Studying toward the Certificate in Mine Environmental Control - Advantageous

4. Experience
-Minimum of 2 years experience in the ventilation and occupational hygiene field
-Background in Occupational Hygiene - Advantageous

5. Knowledge and Skills
-Computer literate in MS Office, MicroStation, and other specialised technical programs
-Valid driver’s licence
