Requirements:
|
1. Purpose of Role -The Shaft Geologist is responsible for providing the specialist geological service for mining departments and forms part of the mine technical service team. He also supports the Chief Geologist in achieving his and the departments set objectives and KPI’s. Demonstrates the capacity and motivation to perform beyond the minimum requirements of his/her role in a continuous strive for optimization and value driven thinking.
2. Work of Role -Shaft underground exploration, drilling and sampling programs -Remedial action to observed deviant practices with regards to grade control/geological standards -Innovative projects identification adding value to the mine’s business and KP’I’s and or geoscientific understanding of the ore body -Hydrogeology programmes -Value based grade and ore control practices -Review and advice on the maximum exploitation of the ore body -Geological risk management (incl. Risk Assessments of underground working places) -All shaft or mine level activities that could impact on the technical integrity/confidence levels of the resource and reserve (SAMREC etc.) -Underground or open pit sampling strategy, management and reconciliation practices -Input into operational planning -Responsible for maintaining and improving the effectiveness and efficiencies of the geological component of the mine technical service team -Grade/ore control input and advice on practices and actual achievements (photogrammetry and SW control – adherence to best cuts) -Systems and information Management to maintain mapping, drilling, logging, plotting and sampling coverage -Best cut specification per reef and faces type (incl. sign off) -Identifying potential and problematic resources and reserves -Validate, interpret and analyse geological information for prediction of future reserves and accurate mine design and scheduling -Mapping, drilling, sampling and logging activities in line with group standard requirements and frequency -Oversight and compilation of geological/structural models for shaft
3. Qualifications -Grade 12 -BSc. Hons in Geology -Must be a Registered Natural Scientist (SACNASP)
4. Experience -Minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in mining Geology, supported by a portfolio of evidence
5. Knowledge and Skills -Sound knowledge pertaining to mining and exploration Geology -Computer literate: MS Office and discipline specific software (Databases and 3D Modelling packages) -Valid driver's license
