Requirements:
|
1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- The Shaft Rock Engineer is responsible for providing the shaft with specialist Rock Engineering services and expertise. Demonstrated an ability to perform in a mining operational environment.
2. WORK OF ROLE
- Alternative support systems
- Day-to-day engineering and design recommendations suitably backed up by modeling or other techniques
- Design of Pillars, Excavations & Support systems/methodologies
- Geotechnical input to reserve losses and dilution
- Geotechnical logging from surface drilling exploration programme boreholes
- Hazard identification and risk surveys
- Input into site specific standards: Support specifications, Rock mass classification
- Mapping of geological structures for geotechnical / rock engineering and mine design purposes
- Monitoring of rock mass stability: Seismicity, Inspections
- Remedial action to observed deviations from support specifications: Standards, Quality
3. QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12
- Chamber of Mines Rock Mechanics Certificate [for Metalliferous Mines]
- BSc. Hons in Geology / Engineering Geology / Mining Engineering – Advantageous
- Member of Professional Body (SANIRE)
4. EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in mining; rock engineering / strata control
5. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Demonstrated ability to meet technical and responsibility requirements of the legal appointment
- Valid driver’s license
- Computer literate for role
