Requirements:
1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
-The Shaft Ventilation Engineer will manage the Ventilation, Occupational Hygiene and Refrigeration Strategies on the Operations for a Production Manager’s area of responsibility.

2. WORK OF ROLE
- Achieving legal compliance ventilation, occupational hygiene, and refrigeration statutory requirements
- Contribute to the achievement of the objectives and targets of the ventilation and occupational hygiene department and those of the operational area
- Coordinating ventilation and occupational hygiene services
- Design, implement and manage total effective ventilation and occupational Hygiene strategies and systems
- Ensure compliance to Sections 5.1(1), 9.2(2), 16.1(1) (MHSA) and Chapter 12 of the MHSA (occupational risk assessment and monitoring)
- Ensure that all legal requirements as set out in the legal appointment are addressed and to ensure adherence to all SBPM standards, procedures, and policies
- Manage budget and cost containment, resources and assets
- Manage risk assessment and auditing processes
- Participate in projects and the effective management thereof
- Responsible for medium term ventilation and occupational hygiene planning
- Responsible to ensure that policies, programmes, standards, codes of practice and procedures are developed, implemented, and maintained, in accordance with legal requirements
- Statutory plans are in place and up to date
- Supporting of team effectiveness

3. QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12
- Chamber of Mines (COM) Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
- Degree in Mining and Engineering – Advantageous
- Degree in Ventilation and Refrigeration Engineering - Advantageous
- Extensive computer literacy in MS Office, Budget Control Programs - Advantageous
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment - Advantageous
- Management system formulation and implementation - Advantageous
- Member of the Mine Ventilation Society -Advantageous
- Registered Member of SAIOH as Occupational Hygienist - Advantageous
- Specialised technical programs (e.g., VUMA) - Advantageous
- Training, in Occupational Health Legislation - Advantageous

4. EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 7 years’ post qualification experience in ventilation

5. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Competent as 5.1(1), 9.2(2), 16.1(1) (MHSA) and chapter 12.1 (MHSA) as Occupational Hygiene Practitioner
