Requirements:
|
1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE - The Safety Officer is a legal appointment in terms of regulation 2.17.4 of the Minerals Act. The role is responsible for the development, implementation and management of safety and risk control programmes, as well as ensuring legal compliance and provision of a safety advisory and reporting service to the operational unit or area.
2. WORK OF ROLE - Carry out statutory inspections (30, 60, 90 days) - Check compliance to safety systems - Check corrective action status - Compile safety reports - Facilitate accident investigations - Stop work if unsafe
3. QUALIFICATIONS - Grade 12 - Trade Certificate - COMSOC I & II / SAMTRAC - Diploma / Degree in Safety Management - Advantageous - Auditor’s courses for Safety and Risk Control Management - Advantageous - Risk Assessment Techniques: (SWIFT, HAZOP and FMECA) - Advantageous
4. EXPERIENCE - Minimum of 5 years relevant engineering experience
5. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS - Accident investigation (ICAT) - Behaviour based safety - First aid - Fire (basic fire – FPA) - Computer literacy (MS Office) - Communication (verbally / written) - Planning skills - Observation skills
