Requirements:
|
1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE - The Chief Ventilation Engineer is also responsible for projects, as well as providing the mine with specialist ventilation, occupational hygiene and refrigeration services and expertise, to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
2. WORK OF ROLE - Audit compliance to standards, cop’s - Audit shaft compliance to ventilation standards - Baseline risk assessment for ventilation purposes in adjunction with occupational hygiene and medicine requirements / measurements - Contributes to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives for mining processes - Develop ventilation and refrigeration mine design in line with live of lease and operational requirements - Disaster management programmes - Ensures compliance with all relevant legal, environmental, occupational health and safety and risk management standards and leading practices - High level complex ventilation / refrigeration modelling - Identify, evaluate, and control conditions that cause illness or adverse effects to persons - Independent review of serious incidents and accidents - Input into mining blueprint - Manages resources to deliver section business targets - Mine design layouts - Mine ventilation and refrigeration standards - Provides ventilation engineering expertise to production team and conducts audits to ensure effective ventilation engineering practice - Reviews and agrees plans, designs, and models for ventilation engineering on a mine - Trend analysis of ventilation parameters, conditions
3. QUALIFICATIONS - Grade 12 - Chamber Of Mines Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
Advantageous:
• Degree in Mining or Engineering • Degree in Ventilation and Refrigeration Engineering • Member of the Mine Ventilation Society • Training, via courses, formal training, or practical experience in: - Occupational Health legislation - Management system formulation and implementation - Safety, Health, and Environmental integration - Hazard identification and risk assessment - Extensive computer literacy in MS Office, budget control programs - Specialised technical programs (e.g. VUMA or Ventsim) - Registered Member in SAIOH as Occupational Hygienist
4. EXPERIENCE - Minimum of 10 years’ practical experience in the ventilation field and at least 5 years as Ventilation Engineer
5. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS - Competent in 5.1(1), 9.2(2), 16.1(1) (MHSA) and chapter 12.1 (MHSA) as Occupational Hygiene Practitioner - Sound knowledge pertaining to people management - Working knowledge of specialist ventilation and refrigeration computer simulation programs
