Professional Nurse: Grade 1 to 2 (Specialty: Psychiatry)

Requirement:
Basic R425 qualification (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse. A post-basic nursing qualification with a duration of at least 1 year accredited with the SANC in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science.
 
Competencies (knowledge/skills):
Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and presentation skills. Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape. Knowledge and insight related to training and development of nurses and students. Knowledge of relevant legislation and policy related to Nursing training and development. Ability to promote quality patient care through the setting, implementation and monitoring of standards. Effective communication, interpersonal, leadership, decision making, and conflict resolution skills.
 
Experience:
Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with the SANC in General Nursing. At least 10 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in Psychiatry after obtaining the 1-year post-basic qualification in the relevant specialty.
 
Duties (key result areas/outputs):
Holistic integrated specialized management of mental health patient at PHC level. Appropriate mental health programs implemented. To provide continues patient care through accurate record keeping. Facilitate liaison between district, regional and psychiatric hospitals via referral pathways. Patient and their supporters are given individualized education when their situation is reviewed.

Note:

Registration with a professional council:
Registration with SANC as Professional Nurse.
 
Inherent requirement of the job:
Valid (Code B/EB) drivers licence. Willingness to work overtime. Be able to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team. Must travel in the Sub-district. Willingness to work in various levels of health facilities and in communities.
 
 
 
 
Remuneration:
Grade 1: R 388 974 (PN-B1) -R 450 939 per annum, Grade 2: R 478 404 (PN-B2)- R 588 390 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer's contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
