Clinical Psychologist Grade 1 to 3

Requirements Minimum educational qualification:
Appropriate qualification that allows registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Duties (key result areas/outputs):
Ensure that mental health services include treatment, prevention, promotion and protection of mental health care users and other vulnerable groups through relevant intervention programs and strategies. Ensure that quality mental health services are provided according to professional standards and ethical principles. Establish Referral pathways and coordination with all stakeholders. Include Suicide and Substance use disorders prevention. Inter-sectoral and inter-disciplinary collaboration and coordination. Provide supervision, mentoring and support to lay health workers and Registered Counsellors, as part the sub district and district mental health teams.
 
Experience:
Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. 1 Year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Grade 2: A Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. Minimum of 9 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Grade 3: A Minimum of 16 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. A Minimum of 17 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
 
Competencies (knowledge/skills):
Knowledge and/or experience in counselling, psychometric assessments, and identification of mental health challenges. Work within your professional scope of practice and know when to refer for more specialized mental health interventions, must be abreast of the Mental Health Care Act and other laws and policies pertaining to the field and have a sound knowledge of professional ethics. Computer literacy (i.e., MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel). Good intra- and interpersonal skills aimed at professional relational development, maintenance of good professional relations and effective conflict resolution. Adaptable and innovative in a high-pressured environment and to work independently and in different clinical settings.
 
Registration with a professional council:
Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and proof of current 2023/2024 registration with the HPCSA in the category: Clinical Psychologist (Independent Practice).

Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements, may also apply. Such candidates will only be considered for appointment on condition that proof of application for registration with the relevant council and proof of payment of the prescribed registration fees to the relevant council are submitted on or before the day of the interview.” This concession is only applicable on health professionals who apply for the first time for registration in a specific category with the relevant council (including individuals who must apply for change in registration status)”
 
Inherent requirements of the job:
Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence. Willingness to travel in the sub-district/ district to consult clients, attend and conduct meetings and training sessions. Ability to communicate in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape. Availability to work after hours, when required.
 
 
 
 
Remuneration:
Grade 1: R 790 077 - R 866 658 per annum, Grade 2: R 918 630 - R 1 018 047 per annum, Grade 3: R 1 063 611 - R 1 249 254 per annum (A portion of the package can be structured according to the individual's personal needs.) A portion of the package can be structured according to the individual's personal needs.
