Medical Specialist Grade 1 to 3 (Internal Medicine)

Competencies (knowledge/skills)
Ability to work as a specialist physician at a Large District Hospital attached to a teaching institution. Verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, hospital procedures and policies.
 
Minimum educational qualification:
Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.

Experience:
Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine. Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine. Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
 
Duties (Key result areas/outputs):
Provision of specialist care to outpatients and inpatients (including ICU and high care). Clinical service leadership and oversight at Victoria hospital. Clinical link and between the Community Health Centres and Victoria and Groote Schuur and False Bay. Outreach to western subdistrict. Training and teaching of students, interns, medical officers and registrars. Clinical governance and management for the Department of Internal Medicine including handling medico-legal enquires.
 
Registration with a Professional Council:
Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
 
Inherent requirements of the job:
Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence, willingness and ability to travel. It will be expected of the successful candidate to participate in a system of remunerated commuted overtime within the Metro Health Services.
 
 
 
 
Remuneration:
Grade 1: R 1 341 855 - R 1 422 810 per annum, Grade 2: R 1 531 032 - R 1 623 609, Grade 1: R 1 773 222 - R 2 212 680 per annum A portion of the package can be structured according to the individual's personal needs.
