Assistant Director: Epidemiology & Disease Surveillance

Minimum educational qualification:
Appropriate three-year National Diploma or Degree in health sciences, social sciences, public health or equivalent.
 
Duties (key result areas/outputs):
Conduct population health surveillance analyses that supports the strategic priorities of the Western Cape Department of Health. Report on Public Health Surveillance. Strengthen surveillance and epidemiological investigations Support and evaluate public health interventions that could contribute to a reduction in the burden of disease. Capacity Development.
 
Experience:
Appropriate experience analysing and reporting on large routine health services datasets

Inherent requirements of the job:
Valid driver's licence. Ability to travel to the districts and nationally if required . Ability to work overtime / irregular hours.
 
Competencies(Knowledge/Skills):
Leadership, managerial, organisational, strategic, operational and contingency planning skills. Decision-making and problem- solving skills. Knowledge of health services for HIV, TB, NCDs, maternal and child health conditions and related diseases. Ability to design and conduct epidemiologic and surveillance analyses using routine data. Excellent computer literacy skills, including high level skills in MS Excel and a statistical package such as Stata or R and ability to understand SQL code.
 
 
 
 
Remuneration:
R 487 197 - R 573 897 per annum Annual salary plus service benefits (13th cheque, employer's contribution to the pension fund, housing and medical aid allowance).
